Ofori-Quaye Quits Professional Soccer?

An unconfirmed repo, from a source in Greece, indicates Peter Ofori-Quaye has quit professional soccer. The ex-Ghanaian International’s contract with the Greek side olympiakos ended last summer and the cub refused to extend it. The striker has not yet signed for any club and no firm offers have yet come in.

At the end of the 2001/02 season, Olympiakos club owner, Sokratis Kokalis, attempted to buy off the strikers contract and make space for new foreign signings. But Ofori-Quaye insisted on playing out the final year of his contract.

The playing career of the 23-year old, who at 16 was hailed as the next George Oppon-Weah, took a nosedive after he joined Olympiakos from Kalamata in 1999. He managed only one goal in 2001/02 and five goals last season. Injury has also contributed to his troubles with the Greek club.

Attempt to confirm the rumour proved futile, since the current address of the player is unknown. However, a friend in Greece, rubbished speculation that he has quit professional football, insisting “Peter will be back, you wait and see”
