Andre Ayew has been an instant hit at Swansea Andre Ayew has been an instant hit at Swansea

After a goalless September, Andre Ayew flung himself back to form against Spurs on Sunday, earning special praise from one of the great Premier League strikers Ian Wright.

The Arsenal legend explains in the write up below:

Andre Ayew is the perfect player for Swansea City.
That is the view of Arsenal hero turned Match of the Day 2 pundit Ian Wright, who picked the Ghanaian star out for special praise on Sunday night’s show.
After the Ballon D’Or nominee silenced his critics by ending his goal drought against Tottenham, excited Wright said: “He’s relishing the Premier League and he’s a perfect player for Swansea City.

“They signed Montero last year and now, to be fair, they’ve done it again with Ayew.”

What makes him so good?

During his analysis of the Swans’ 2-2 draw with Spurs, Wright picked out a list of attributes that set Ayew apart from other strikers, saying: “I thought he was a forward but he’s far more than that.”

He chases back

He wins his team free kicks with clever play

He makes dangerous runs into the box

He has great technical ability and passes with both feet

He plays exquisite through balls to Bafetimbi Gomis

He’s struck up a great relationship with Gomis

He creates time and space for the players around him

He’s got a rocket shot

His headed goal was ‘fantastic’ because it was so powerful

But apart from scoring and creating goals, Wright picked out how Ayew has a really strong defensive game too and regularly picks up positions in and around his own penalty area.

The former striker said: “We see him chasing back. a lot

“He’s very tenacious and he’s got a lot of quality about him.

“We see him on the edge of his own box making great blocks.”

Wright’s fellow MOTD2 studio analyst Alan Shearer was also impressed, saying: “We often hear about foreign players needing time to adapt to the Premier League.

“Not this guy, he’s into it straight away and he looks like he’s enjoying his football.”
