Kotoko Loan players to Mine starts

The Management of Kumasi Asante Kotoko has in consultation with the technical team transferred four players of the team to Prestea Mine Stars. Under the loan agreement brokered this week following representations by Mine Stars, Felix Yeboah, Charles Asamoah, Frank Asowah and Kwadwo Owusu were to have their final training with Kotoko on Wednesday afternoon before joining the Miners.

The agreement is for a one year period and is intended to provide the four players other avenues to pursue their careers since they have so far failed to make the grade into new coach Ian Porterfield's selection. With the exception of Kwadwo Owusu, who was recalled from Adansiman United after a similar loan transfer at the end of last season, the others have not been very regular in the Kotoko set up.

Frank Asowah joined Kotoko from Adansiman at the end of the 2000 season, while Charles Asamoah and Felix Yeboah joined the team from Power F. C. also at the beginning of the 2000 season. Kwadwo Owusu is a product of the Kotoko youth team and was drafted into the regular side under former coach David Booth's tenure.

Kwadwo Owusu is fondly remembered for his classic, non-drop shot that hit the back of Accra Great Olympics goal to win the 2000 Gala for Kotoko. A management source said the four players have already been told of the agreement and that they have expressed the willingness to go. The miners are said to be on the heels of the Kotoko management to assist them with players. In another development, four regular players of the Kotoko youth team have gained promotion into the senior team. They are William Thompson, Michael Ofosu Appiah, Edmund Owusu Peprah and Kwadwo Poku. The four have been very consistent with impressive performances in their outings and have on several occasions featured for the senior team in the premier league.
