Namibia Coach Doubts Ages of Ghana U20

Namibia Under-20 coach Bernard Kaanjuka has caused controversy by claiming he suspects Ghana fielded over-aged players for last Sunday’s African Youth Championship qualifier.

Kaanjuka’s side were thumped 4-0 in the first leg first qualifying round tie played in Accra and believes his side were out-muscled by the bigger Ghanaian opponents.

“The Ghanaian players are too big as compared to our player. Their number 5 is too grown and their ages I suspect he’s above the required age,” He told Ghanasoccernet.com But when asked to substantiate his claims, Kaanjuka was diplomatic with the issue.

“We were preparing for Under-20 competition but to my surprise we came here to play the big team of Ghana. I never said they are too old or too big but I said he played the big team of Ghana.”

Caf is expect to send investigators to the Windhoek on 7 August for the return leg to ascertain the truth. Age-cheating is pervasive in Africa Youth football and the continent’s governing body is yet to clamp down on countries who cheat.
