Ayew pleased with qualification

Ghana midfielder Andre Ayew says the Black Stars deserved to go through to the next round stage of the World Cup despite losing to Germany.

The Black Stars lost 1-0 to the Germans in the final Group D clash at the Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg Wednesday evening.

However, Ghana progressed on goal difference, as they ended level on points with Australia.

Ayew who picked up a card in the pressure game admits that the Black Stars battled to avoid defeat but he remains very pleased with qualification to the next round where Ghana plays the United States.

"It was a very difficult game for us, but we’ve battled away to the end. It wasn’t quite enough for a draw, but it was good enough to make the next round," the Ghana midfielder said.

"We failed to take our chances today, and there were plenty of chances we could have taken. The vital thing was to qualify."
