Kotoko lose 0-1 to Ashgold in Kumasi

Kumasi, May 2 GNA - Kumasi Asante Kotoko played a good game but allowed Obuasi Ashantigold to beat them 1-0 in what was seen as a convenience match in their Glo Premier League match played at the Baba Yara Stadium, Kumasi on Sunday.

The only goal of the match was scored by Frederick Quayson in the early stage of the match which many sports fans believed Kotoko played it soft for the visitors to maintain their lead on the League. It was Ashantigold who kicked off and carried the ball to Kotoko and earned a corner in the third minute but it was wasted and with the heat on Kotoko, Quayson got the opener in the fourth minute with a close shot which beat Isaac Amoako in the post for Kotoko.

Kotoko accepted the challenge and worked their way through but Michael Boakye wasted a chance in the 12th minute with Edward Affum also fumbling in an attempt to score two minutes later.

The match then became a ding-dong affair with the ball being played around the centre circle to end the half.

Both teams exhausted their substitutions in the second half with Kotoko on top of the game but could not redeem the goal till the final whistle.

At the Anane Boateng Sports Stadium at Abrankese near Kumasi, visiting Accra Hearts of Oak were beaten 3-2 by Kessben F/C. 02 May 10
