FIFA Fines Ghana $1,000 Dollars

Fifa has fined Ghana $1,000 for the behaviour of their fans in a World Cup qualifier against Nigeria in Accra on March 11.

Fans stoned an assistant referee with water bags in the first minute of play in protest of his decision to rule Nana Arhin Duah offside as he attempted to score.

Ghana, who played with an entirely home-based side held Nigeria?s squad of Europe-based professionals to a goal-less draw.

It was the second incident involving fans at the Accra Sports Stadium.

In February, CAF banned Hearts of Oak for a year to defend their African title at the venue after crowd trouble at the Champions League final in December against Esperance of Tunisia.

During the match, police fired teargas on fans throwing objects from above the VIP area when Esperance were leading 1-0.

Play was stopped for 20 minutes as Hearts went on to score three goals to lift the trophy 5-2 on aggregate.

Unruly fans, who were throwing chairs, took part of the blame recently after police fired several canisters of teargas that led to the deaths of 126 spectators at a league match between Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko.
