Liberty to release players for national teams

Ghanaian side Liberty Professional have made a dramatic U-turn on their threat of not releasing their players for national team assignment.

The club issued their threat last week after a chorus of disapproval over the number of the team's players in the national U-20 side.

But technical director of the team Jones Attuquayefio says they will not prevent their players from fulfilling their dreams of the playing for their country.

"I think the statement about us refusing to release our players for national team assignment was in frustration over unwarranted criticism on our team," the former African Coach of the Year told Ghanasoccernet.

"Over the past decade we have produce the best players in the country as you can see by the number of our stars playing for top teams abroad.

"I think those making those criticisms should take that factor into consideration that we have the most comprehensive talent seeking football institution in Ghana.

"But we are not going to prevent these players from achieving their dreams just because of these unfair criticisms.

"We will continue to seek more talents for our team which will in the long run benefit Ghana."

Michael Essien, Sulley Muntari, John Paintsil, Asamoah Gyan and Kwadwo Asamoah, who were all part of the Ghana squad at the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations, went through Liberty Professionals before moving to Europe.
