Ambassador Solomon donates footballs to Ablekuma Youth

Accra, March 27, GNA - His Excellency, Richard Oblitei Solomon, Ghana's Ambassador to Equatorial Guinea on Monday donated 20 footballs to the youth of Ablekuma North to encourage them to embrace communal living and unite for the advancement of the community.

The Nike branded footballs valued at about 5.7 million cedis were distributed to the five electoral areas in the constituency, namely Odorkor, Otaten, Kwashieman, Darkuman East and Darkuman West. His Excellency Solomon said the donation was designed to encourage the youth at the local level to adopt healthy living styles while cementing communal spirit among them.

He explained that football was the most appropriate channel through which communal spirit would be propagated since most of the youth involved in it.

The former Accra Great Olympics Chairman pledged his support for the activities of the constituency and urged the youth to remain focused and pursue positive endeavours.

Dennis Quansah, Assembly member for Darkuman East on behalf of his colleagues thanked Ambassador Solomon for his kind gesture, promising that the footballs would be used for the right purpose. Sumaila Iddrisu, a midfielder of Great Olympics and a resident of the area, on behalf of the youth, commended the Ambassador for the donation, which he said would help curb the involvement of the youth in social vices.

Present at the presentation were Joyce Acheampong, Osei Frimpong Otaten, Ransford Mensah, Nii Ashong; Assembly members for Odorkor, Otaten, Kwashieman and Darkuman East respectively and some youth groups. Meanwhile, a football match organized in honour of the Ambassador Solomon, scheduled for last Monday has been postponed to Monday, April 2 at the Dansoman Cable and Wireless Park.

The organisers attributed the rescheduling of the match to the heavy downpour that rendered the field unsuitable for the encounter on Monday. Some players expected to feature are Alfred Nii Larbi, Emmanuel Yartey of Hearts of Oak fame, Samuel Monnie, Asare Nyarko both formerly of Great Olympics among others.
