Western Region referees attend refresher course.

Takoradi, Sept.26, GNA- Mr. Felix Asamoah, Western regional chairman of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has called for fairness, greater discipline and unity among Ghanaian referees.

He also advised referees to reflect soberly on their past performances and make amends where necessary so that they could perform better in subsequent assignments.

Mr. Asamoah who was addressing the opening of a three-day physical fitness test refresher course for 70 referees in the Western region at Takoradi on Friday, said referees should work hard to protect the "good image of the knight of the whistle".

Chief Inspector James Adjei, regional chairman of the association called for adequate protection for referees before, during and after matches saying their allowances should also be paid promptly.

"With enough security at league centres, match officials will ignore intimidation and will be fearless in handling their assignments."

Inspector Adjei appealed to institutions and philanthropists to sponsor refresher courses for referees to improve their performances.

Mr. Lee Yankey, chairman of Juvenile sports in the southern sector, urged the GFA to organise workshops for radio sports commentators and presenters to update their knowledge on the laws governing football, This is because comments that some of them make are not helping in the development of the game.
