Update facilities at Black Stars camp - Welfare Officer

The Welfare Officer of the senior national team, the Black Stars, Mr. Kudjo Fianoo, has called for an improvement in the facilities at the Winneba camp of the Black Stars to make camping attractive to the players.

Mr Fianoo said even though there have been some improvement in the facilities, there is the need for some basic amenities like washing machines, dryers, fridges and television sets to be provided.

The training field also needs to be levelled and reshaped to make playing more comfortable and effective to eliminate unnecessary injuries to the players.

The Black Stars are currently at the Winneba sports college to prepare for next year’s Cup of Nations in Mali.

According to the Welfare Officer, the players have a low stock of kits and are compelled to wash them after every training session whilst some have problems storing their drinkables, foods and other perishable items.

There is also the need for television sets to keep the players abreast with events outside the camp and for their relaxation.

The Welfare Officer said even though problems exist at the Winneba training camp it is preferable to hotels because apart from being very expensive, the hotels are easily accessed by the relatives, friends and hangers-on of the players.

He said camping at Winneba is safer, makes observation easier, and cuts down costs, adding that money used for paying huge hotel bills could be used to motivate the players.
