University of Education pip University of Ghana

Cape Coast, Jan 28, GNA - A 74th minute goal scored by outside right, Sani Salifu enabled University of Education, Winneba to beat University of Ghana 2-1 in the soccer competition of the GUSA games currently going on at Cape Coast on Monday.

The University of Ghana who played a yeoman's game to beat GUSA soccer defending champions, UST by two goals to one (2-1) in their first match failed to live up to expectation and allowed the Winneba boys to dictate the pace of the game for most of the time.

From the blast of the whistle, University of Ghana started strongly and netted the opener in the sixth minute through centre half, Kofi Boakye.

University of Education accepted the challenge and forced the tide in their favour by making several attempts to equalise but try as they did, they could not find the net until half time.

The second half resumed with both sides coming into the game strongly but it was the Winneba lads who were slightly on top as they launched series of attacks in their opponents goal area for a considerable length of time before they managed to find the equalizer in the 59th minute through their centre forward, Ata Peters.

The Winneba lads continued to pile pressure on their Legon counterparts and rightly scored the match winner in the 74th minute.
