U-20 Qualify For Nations Cup Finals

Ghana needed a 4-2 penalty shoot-out victory over Tunisia at the El Menzah Stadium in Tunis before booking a place in the finals of the Under-20 African Nations Cup in Burkina Faso.

After full-time, the Tunisians had won 1-0 to tie the home and away legs 1-1, thanks to a free kick by Hassine Regued in the 64th minute.

It became clear afterwards that the hopes of both sides rested on the shoulders of the penalty experts.

Ghana triumphed 4-2 to make it to the Nations Cup for the fourth consecutive time.

Tunisia had anticipated a place in Burkina Faso after putting up a good display in Kumasi, despite losing 1-0 from a first-half strike.

The North Africans bowed their heads in disappointment after showing less class in the shoot-out.

With only the keeper to beat Ghana missed their first chance in the 40th minute and Tunisia had responded with a 22-yard free kick which was deflected off target.

It was a scrappy first-half with both sides struggling for control, while Ghana clearly settled for counter attacks.

Missing the finals in Burkina Faso could be a minor setback for the Tunisian Under-20's, who could have relied on some of the players to integrate in the senior side for the Nations Cup which they will host in 2004.
