Super Rainbow win Colts tournament

Cape Coast, May 22 GNA - Cape Coast Super Rainbow emerged the Central Region Under-17 Colts champions of the Inter Districts Colts championship tournament which ended at Cape Coast on Sunday. They beat their local rivals, Odomankomba 5-3 on penalties and beat Ebubonko Royals 2-1 in the finals to secure five points to win the diadem championship.

In the keenly contested match, Royals shocked Super Rainbow with an early minute goal scored by midfielder, Haruna Sulemana. The early goal gave Royals the tonic to probe for more goals but their forwards squandered many of the begging chances that came their way. Super Rainbow forced the tide in their favour and levelled up the scores in the 15th minute through outside right, Joseph Mensah. The second half became balanced and just as the game was coasting to a draw game, centre half Oswell Botey, exploited a defensive blunder to score the match winner for Super Rainbow in the 65th minute. In the Under 14 division, Ebubonko Royals beat Mankessim Soccer Express 2-1.

In another development, Abura Shantels whipped Mankessim Striking Force 3-1 to qualify for the finals of the Cape Coast District Under-12 Juvenile Colts championship in their match at the Robert Mensah stadium on Saturday.

Shantels led 2-1 at half time. On resumption of the second half, the hope of Striking Force of levelling the score were shattered when against the run of play, Shantels midfielder, Peter Amoah raised his side=92s tally to 3-1 in the 55th minute.

The Under-14 side of the Mankessim Striking Force however made amends when they beat Cape Coast Paa Badu Stars 4-3 on penalties to qualify for the finals while Pedu Great Halifax also beat Odomankomamba 5-3 on penalties to qualify for finals in their Under-17 encounter. Mr Haruna Issah, Secretary of the Juvenile Colts Association said ten colts teams are participating in the competition. 22 May, 06
