Sundowns want Edmund Owusu Ansah

Mamelodi Sundowns might have finally landed a real gem in Ghanaian Edmund Owusu Ansah, a versatile midfield player at home both in a holding role or behind the strikers.

The player arrived in the country on Wednesday to try his luck with the Chloorkop-based outfit but reports from Ghana are that the former Asante Kotoko captain is a class player likely to impress the hard to please Bulgarian coach Hristo Stoichkov.

Ansah is described as a hard working player who combines skill with steel. He is a creative player who can also be deployed as a destroyer in the hole but has in 24 international matches scored an amazing eight goals!

The 26-year-old Ansah could have long ago broken into the Black Stars senior squad but has to fight for a position with the likes of Sulley Muntari, Stephen Appiah and Michael Essien which is a tall order indeed.

However, he has already captained the local based Black Stars and led them to a silver medal at the inaugural African Nations Championship tournament in Cote d’Ivoire where they lost the gold medal to the Democratic Republic of Congo. Although Sundowns have capable defensive and attacking midfielders like captain Esrom Nyandoro and Matty Patterson as well as Papi Zothwane, it seems like the “Brazilians” are obsessed in building a super squad that will conquer Africa and go on to take part in the Fifa World Club Championship.

Ansah left Kotoko at the start of the 2008 season to join their rivals Hearts of Lion whom he has also captained since his arrival.
