Sunderland keen on Andre Ayew

Sunderland are ready to revive their interest in Andre Ayew after failing to land the Swansea City forward in January.

Black Cats boss Sam Allardyce saw a bid thought to have been worth more than £10 million for Ayew rejected by Swansea in the last transfer window.

But Allardyce has not given up hope of luring the Ghana star to the North East.

Ayew is thought to feature on Sunderland's list of top transfer targets, although there has been no formal approach for the player as yet.

Ayew finished as Swansea's 12-goal leading scorer in 2015-16 after joining the club on a free transfer from Marseille last summer.

He has been linked with a number of rival sides over the last few months, including Liverpool and West Ham.

Ayew has stated publicly that he would be happy enough to stay at Swansea – where he has three years to run on his contract – beyond this summer.

But the 26-year-old has also suggested on more than one occasion that he wants to play Champions League football again, having previously done so at Marseille.

Ayew is unlikely to reach that level any time soon at Sunderland, yet Allardyce believes he is in with a genuine chance of persuading the winger-cum-striker to move to Wearside.

And if Sunderland come in with a big enough offer, Swansea are likely to consider a deal - even though boss Francesco Guidolin wants the player to stick around.
