Stevanovic thrilled by upcoming home debut

Ghana coach Goran Stevanovic says he is looking forward to his home debut as Ghana coach when the Black Stars play Congo next Friday.

The Serbian has taken charge of three Ghana games already but all three have been away from Ghana. The qualifier against Congo in a group I encounter will thus be his first and he has promised his team will deliver a performance to match.

“I like football and I am eager to start. I know Ghanaians love their football and they want to see the game. I am sure the people of Kumasi will enjoy the game on Friday,” he said.

The Serbian has won two of his first three games in charge of Ghana and drawn one but says keeping the unbeaten record is the least of his priorities. All I want is for us to win because it will advance our Nations Cup hopes.”

Stevanovic will rely on a 24-man squad heavy on experience and can also count on the returning Michael Essien, who has not played for Ghana since the 2010 Nations Cup as well as AC Milan midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng who missed the corresponding fixture in Brazzaville through injury.
