Sixty clubs to participate in Division Two league

Cape Coast, April 22, GNA - The Central Region Division Two League will commence on Sunday, May 10 this year. Sixty Clubs including Cape Coast Venomous Vipers and Agona Fankobaa are among the clubs which have registered to participate in the League. The decision was taken at a meeting attended by Club Chairmen and representatives at the Robert Mensah sports stadium, Cape Coast on Tuesday.

Mr Mathew Doe, Chairman of the Central Region Football Association who presided over the meeting appealed to Clubs who have not as yet paid their registration fees to do so by May 3.

He advised to the Clubs to educate their supporters to comport themselves during League matches and also refrain from bribing referees appointed to officiate matches to be in their favour. In another development, Mr Mac Donald Nii Bruce, a native of Abura Dunkwa, domiciled in America, on Tuesday donated five trophies to the Central Region Football Association (CRFA). Mr Bruce who is also the Chief Executive of Abura Dunkwa Galaxy F/C said the donation was in response to an appeal made to him by the Regional Football Association.

He expressed regret that Cape Coast which was the first to nurture soccer in the country, has no Premier Club and said he has the hope that the donation will go a long way to motivate the Clubs to train harder to qualify for the elite division. Mr Doe, Regional Chairman of the Association who received the trophies thanked Mr Bruce for the gesture and hoped other philanthropists would emulate his example to help support the development of sports in the Region.
