Shooting Cannons qualify for Division Two

Accra, April 24, GNA - Shooting Cannons, a Dansoman based Division Three side has gained promotion to the Greater Accra Division Two league after beating fellow Division Three campaigners, Victory Stars of Awoshie 2-0, in a play-off match at the Ashalaja Park in Accra. The two sides who three weeks ago had engaged in a similar battle that ended prematurely as a result of poor visibility, showed signs of making amends this time round right from the blast of the referees whistle in an effort to secure the single slot for promotion. It was however the Dansoman lads who had the first bite when skilful Joshua Kotey operating on the flanks cut through the defence of their opponents to set up Seth Appiah for the opener.

Victory Stars then turned the heat on their opponents and made series of unsuccessful attempts to cancel the lead but it never materialised till the close of the first half.

The game followed the same pattern in the second half until Victory Stars' Elvis Amponsah was sent off for rough play. This gave Cannons the advantage over their opponents as from then they put them under sustained pressure in the last quarter of the game in search of another goal.

The onslaught paid off for Cannons when in the 90th minute substitute Bedford Mathias outrun a defender to lay a pass on the path of unmarked Kotey to put his name on the score sheet as well as ensure his team progressed into the Second Division.
