Seth Owusu fired up for Chivas in MLS

Former Medeama SC defender Seth Owusu has told ALL SPORTS he expects his recent 6-month loan switch to play for Chivas USA in Major League Soccer to hone his skills and also give him the experience to launch a big career in Europe.

The Ghanaian youngster expects to make his American debut against MLS Cup champions Colorado Rapids tomorrow after missing Chivas’ opening game of the 2011 season last week due to the late arrival of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC).

His new side lost 2-3 at home to Kansas City but Owusu is ready and fired up to help Chivas push for the title as he establishes his own credentials in pursuit of the European deal he so craves.

“I have taken here as a platform, so I’m hoping to get a bigger move to Europe this summer if God permits. All I’m praying is no injury for me this time because it’s not easy to play with Thierry Henry, David Becham, Rafael Marquez , Landon Donovan and so many other great players in MLS,” Owusu stated.

“Seth is a player that we’re really excited about, and I’m happy to officially welcome him to Chivas USA,” said Chivas Head Coach Robin Fraser. “I’ve been following him for a little while now, and he has a lot of qualities that will help us this season.”

The 20 year old rugged defender made the switch from sensational Glo Ghana Premiership side Medeama SC having spearheaded their good start to the 2010/11 season, amid earning a national team call-up for last October’s 2012 Nations’ Cup qualifier against Sudan.

The defender who also has experience with national U-17 and U-20 sides wants a return to the Black Stars.

“Why not, if I’m called I would be happy. You see the first time they called me, I did not get chance to play but I’m still young so I know I will have lots of opportunities.
