SWAG commends Black Stars

The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), has congratulated the Black Stars for qualifying for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

A statement from the secretariat of SWAG, described the qualification as historic taking into consideration the fact that it was the third consecutive qualification to the biggest football festival in the world.

It added that, the qualification was also unique because it was the first time, an African coach and Ghanaian coach guided the team to the World Cup.

The statement said the feat achieved by Coach James Akwesi Appiah gives the nation enough reason to invest in the development of coaches in the country to ensure that the nation abounds in enough elite coaches ready to handle the national team at any time. It said, the move will help reduce the huge cost involved in hiring of expatriate coaches for the country as well as build the confidence of local coaches. The statement also commended members of the playing body for their commitment and dedication both legs.

According to the statement, the performance of the playing demonstrated their commitment towards the cause of the nation and urged them extend to the World Cup and other competitive matches.

The statement also congratulated the Executive Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports for their support for the campaign of the Black Stars.

“The amount of support from the GFA and the Ministry also provided the necessary condition for the team to excel and we are convinced this will be sustained before during and after the World Cup”.
