Queens beat Ghatel Ladies 3-0

Winneba, June 27, GNA - Ghartel ladies football team lost by three goals to nil to the Black Queens in a friendly match played at the National Sports College Park, Winneba on Sunday. The match was part of preparations of the Queens for an impending confrontation with the Republic of Congo.

There were no goals in the first half, however in the second half, Edu Twiniwah started the Queens' victory song with the opener in the 54 minute with a close range effort. Edu doubled the count six minutes later.

Anitah Amankwa, in the 80th minute, managed to put the ball into the net to make the scores three in favour of the Queens. Mr Isaac Paha, head coach of the Queen and Dan Owusu, assistant coach told the GNA after the match that they had been in Winneba since May 26 and would be leaving on the July 23, 2006. They said 50 players were called and out of that, they had been able to select 30 disciplined players who would deliver the desired results.

The two coaches appealed to the entire citizenry support them to enable them to be victorious in their tournaments. Mr Dominic Asabis, Director of the National Sports College said the period of selection of players for the National teams was short and appealed to the authorities to extend it in future. He added that by so doing the coaches would be better placed to select good quality players, who would hoist the flag of Ghana in international competitions.

Mr Asabis reiterated the need for players' counselling at all times to instil a sense of patriotism and dedication into them so that they would put up their utmost any time they represented the country. He asked the players to cooperation with their handlers, since resources at the College were limited and could not satisfy all their needs. 27 June 06
