Ghana have their destiny in their own hands as the Black Queens remain in the race to finish as one of the seven qualifiers for the 6th African Women’s Championships on Saturday.

This weekend, qualification places will be decided as the second leg matches of the final round is cleared across the continent with the game in Accra, being one of the most attractive pairings.

The Black Queens, who stayed in contention for a qualifying spot after drawing 1-1 a fortnight ago in the first leg away match to Ivory Coast are better on goal difference than their opponents for Saturday’s game at the Ohene Djan Stadium.

A change in technical direction earlier this week is set to provide some spark in the team who will be spurred on by a massive home support drawn from the various support groups in the country.

Mumuni Gamel, who took over the reins of the team is confident of leading Ghana to a championship place with victory over the Mama Elephants. Also, the return of Anita Amankwah from suspension is expected to add more bite upfront for Ghana this time round.

However, his opposite number in the Ivorian dugout, Adelaide Koudougnon also remains upbeat about his team’s chances.

The Ivorians have been boosted by the arrival of Lago Armelle and Sanogo Maoua, who both play D2 championship in France.

Ivorian captain, Gnago Alexise Jeanne is hopeful of surprising the Black Queens, rated Africa’s second best footballing side tomorrow.

“Everybody is ready. I think the achievements of the team will enable us to defeat Ghana.”

Nigeria, Namibia, Tunisia, Algeria, Cameroon, Tanzania, Mali, Guinea, Congo, DR Congo, South Africa and Zimbabwe are all in contention to take one of the seven spots for the 6th African Women’s Championships and join Equatorial Guinea, who gained automatic qualification as hosts for the draw later this year.

The 6th African Women’s Championships has been fixed for November 15-29.
