Prince Buaben was left feeling like a criminal

Buaben finally joined his Dundee United team-mates at their Austrian training camp in the early hours of Thursday morning after originally being turned away by passport control at Munich Airport over a visa issue.

And he admitted that while now able to laugh at what had happened to him the experience had nevertheless left its mark.

"When I was stopped the police said that it wasn't a criminal offence and told me not to worry," he said.

"But the place they put me in wasn't the best and made me feel like I had committed a crime.

"It was a little room with a hard bench to sleep on and they didn't give me any food or drink.

"It wasn't a cell but it certainly felt like it.

"I only got some food when the club doctor brought some along for me.

"They kept me there for two hours and then moved me to the departure lounge, where I had to sleep on the seats for six hours before my flight home.

"I'm pretty sick of the sight of airports, but it wasn't the Germans' mistake — it was a mix-up and they were just doing their jobs.

"When I arrived back in Germany the girl on the border control desk smiled and said, 'Have you been here before?' and I told her that I was but they kicked me out.

"She just laughed and told me I could come in this time.

"I'm just glad this happened in pre-season and not when we're playing in Europe because that would have been much worse."

As predicted the Ghanaian has been the target of dressing-room wind-ups-particularly from Damian Casalinuovo-since he reached Obertraun.

"The lads were not laughing at the time I had my problem at the airport because I think they were worried about me.

"But since I came back there has been a few comments.

"Damian and I are always winding each other up about his passport and the age on it because he's starting to get grey hair-so he's been getting his own back.

"But I'm not having Danny Swanson claiming that I was screaming on the original flight over when we were coming into land and the turbulence hit our plane.

"The only thing he's said that was true was that he and David Goodwillie were holding hands."
