Premier League to go on recess

Accra, Dec. 14, GNA - The second round of the 2010/2011 Glo Premier League will go on recess during the Sudan 2011 African Nations Championship (CHAN) from 4-25 February, 2011. The League which will be on hold throughout the three-week tourney, is designed exclusively for footballers playing in their domestic leagues, and is in support of the local Black Stars who will be making their second appearance at the championship.
Welbeck Abra Appiah, Chairman of the Premier League Board (PLB) said at a media briefing in Accra that the break would not affect the timeline of the elite division expected to end on May 22, 2011. The break will cater for an international friendly for the Black Stars on February 9 against a yet-to-be determined opponent, the round of 16 matches of the FA Cup as well as the second leg of the prelims of the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation. The CHAN break remains the longest throughout the season. The Black Stars will face Niger, South Africa and Zimbabwe at the group phase of the tourney incepted in 2009.
