Patrons, Founders support Olympics' majority shareholder

Accra, Feb 18, GNA - The Council of Patrons of Accra Great Olympics has thrown its weight behind Mr. Ernest Apatu-Plange, majority shareholder of the club for appointing an Interim Management Committee (IMC) to run the club.

A press release issued by the Council and copied to the GNA Sports after a long meeting and signed by Nana Addo Dankwa III, chairman of the Council declared support for the actions of the leading shareholder, which are also aimed at establishing "working and efficient structures that would lead to establishing a wider network of shareholders."

"We believe that this would create an enabling environment to propel Accra Great Olympics Football Club to succeed in all its endeavours and bring an end to the rancour, disunity and controversy that has hampered its development."

Furthermore, the Council of Patrons reiterated its stand that it has endorsed and recognized the IMC appointed by Mr Apatu-Plange as the only legitimate and bona fide management body of the club and urged all stakeholders, including the Ghana Football Association, (GFA) the media, the supporters and the general public to accord the IMC its due respect and recognition.

Other members of the Council present at the meeting included Mr. Mike Ezan, Colonel (Rtd.) George Kwawu, Mr. Joe Cleland and Mr. Ato Ampiah

In a related development, the next of kin of the Founding Fathers of Great Olympics have also endorsed the action of the majority shareholder.

A statement signed by Mr. Louis Glover, Mr. Harry Oblitey, Mr. Alex Okwabi and Mr. George Provencal all descendants of the Founding Fathers said they support the IMC appointed by Mr. Apatu-Plange.

They described the Board of Directors of the club as "illegally constituted" and castigated them for "showing an uncooperative attitude by absenting themselves from meetings" called to address pertinent issues affecting the club, including the restructuring exercise.

The heirs to the Founders regretted that though it was agreed upon that no appointments would be made before the end of the restructuring exercise, "the illegally constituted board of directors showed blatant disrespect and high degree of arrogance to the Council of Patrons, the next of kin of the founding fathers, the old players association and the welfare committee" to announce a management committee.

"We are therefore calling on the illegally constituted board of directors and the management committee members they have appointed to respect the decision of the majority shareholder and let peace prevail in the club, the statement said."

The majority shareholder last week appointed Mr. Johnny Teye, Mr. Fritz Baffour, Mr. Jerry Djangman and Mr. George Heward-Mills to oversee the affairs of the club in an interim circumstance, while the Board also announced a rival IMC headed by Frank Davies.
