Oldies share honours in friendly

Sunyani, (B/A) May 2, GNA - Brong-Ahafo Old footballers were held to a one-all drawn game with their visiting Ashanti regional counterparts in a special friendly match at the Coronation Park in Sunyani at the weekend.

The match, which, coincided with this year's May Day celebrations in the Sunyani Municipality, was in honour of Kofi Num, one-time striker of B.A. United Sporting club who one leg has been amputated following an involvement in a motor-cycle accident in Sunyani on August 13, last year.

Even though the day was a public holiday and also the fact that the match was played fee of charge, only a few spectators turned up to watch the match.

The two teams despite their old age and the physical appearance of some of them, they entertained the few spectators with skills reminiscent of their good old days.

The Ashanti Region side scored first through Frimpong Manso, an old player of Kumasi Asante Kotoko in the first half, but Enoch Kumi, one-time top striker for Bofoakwa Tano cancelled the lead in the second half after Ntow Gyan, another one-time B.A. United striker painfully wasted a penalty kick for Brong-Ahafo Regional team. The old players who represented the Ashanti regional team included Jonas Agyei, Asare Boateng, Da Costa, Duah Boateng (all former Kotoko stars), Joseph Mends (Tano Bofoakwa), goalkeeper Quainoo Obeng (Ashanti Heroes) and Amankwaah formerly of Sekondi Hasaacas. The Brong-Ahafo side were represented by Dan Bright aka 93Iron", of B.A. United/Bofoakwa Tano fame and 93Power-house" Kwasi Owusu, one-time captain of the senior national team, the Black Stars, who dedicated himself to Bofoakwa Tano throughout his playing days. The others included Disco Nana Gyamfi (Bofoakwa/B.A. United, Berekum Arsenals/Kotoko), 93Coach" Sarfo Castro (Tema Ghapoha), George Best (B.A. United), Enoch Kumi (B.A. United/Bofoakwa) and Yaw Bofah (B.A. United).
