Officiating is still a problem in Ghana- Wakaso

Ghana international Mubarak Wakaso who plays for Spanish side Villarreal says one of the major obstacles in the development of the local premier league is officiating.

The 22-year-old, who is in Ghana on holidays following the end of the season in Spain, said even though a lot had improved in the local league officiating leaves much to be desired.

“One of our problems is officiating. It was a problem when I was in Ghana and after a few years abroad I expected to see changes but nothing has changed. I have watched a few games in Berekum since I arrived here and I must say I was not impressed with the referees,” he told Multi TV’s Sports Night show over the weekend.

Wakaso also bemoaned the lack of first class pitches in Ghana and said it makes the development of the game difficult. Wakaso has become a household name in Ghana following his impressive display for Villarreal in the Spanish La Liga.

Very little was known of Wakaso until his emergence at Villarreal despite the fact that he played for Ghana premier league side Ashanti Gold.

He is yet to play a competitive game for the Black Stars because of injuries but is a player who will definitely bring a lot to the senior national team in the future.
