Nigeria W. Cup biding committee arrives in Ghana

Mr Steven Ibn Akiga, Nigeria Minister of Sports and Social Development leads an 11-member 2010 World Cup biding Committee delegation to Accra on Sunday for a three-day working visit.

A statement issued in Accra on Saturday said the delegation, which includes the Chairman of the Nigerian World Cup Committee, Chief Segun Odegbami, would hold separate meetings with President John Agyekum Kufuor, Youth and Sports Minister, Edward Osei-Kweku and officials of the Ghana Football Association on Monday.

The team is also billed to inspect facilities in the country, which would be one of the venues for the dream five-nation West African World Cup bid.

Nigeria is roping in her neighbours, Ghana, Togo, Benin and Cameroon to stage the mundial, which has been given to Africa as part of FIFA's rotational method.

It would be the second time the Nigerian Committee is visiting Ghana to brainstorm on how best to sell idea of a West Africa World Cup bid - the first visit though, was without Mr Akiga.

The 2010 edition will be awarded to one of six African bidders - Egypt, South Africa, Nigeria, Morocco, Libya and Tunisia - with FIFA announcing the winner in May 2004.
