My father was a Ghanaian - Weah

Former world best soccer player, George Weah’s strong affection for Ghana following the decade-long war in Liberia is not for nothing, after all. He is in fact part Ghanaian.

King George Weah, as he is commonly referred to, made this disclosure in Kumasi on a radio programme last Monday.

He disclosed that even though he is of Liberian nationality, his late father was a Ghanaian from the Western Region, Takoradi to be precise.

The UNICEF Soccer Ambassador said apart from being part Ghanaian he considers Ghana as a very peaceful country with peaceful people.

The soccer supremo, who is in Kumasi on a private visit, took a swipe at the Liberian F. A. on the way the game is run in that country and said that unless things are changed and done professionally there will be little progress for their game.

He recalled with fond memories, some matches he played against the Black Stars of Ghana and cited Edward "Opeele" Aboagye as someone he missed.

The 38-year-old George Weah did not rule out the possibility of taking up a role as a coach of the game in the near future.

He advised up and coming players to be humble and take their time to mature before seeking to travel outside to play.

He was hopeful that with the promising note that the Black Stars have started with their World Cup qualifiers they would qualify for the Mundial for the first time.
