Muntari Has Not resigned From Meteors

Ghana’s teenage prodigy Sulley Ali Muntari of the Italian Serie A team Udinese has denied resigning from the national football teams.

Speaking for the first time to the media since gaining a regular first team place his Serie A team, Muntari told GHANAWEB: “the rumour in Ghana that I resigned from the national team is unfounded.” He said: “I don’t know where this rumour emanates from but I am prepared to serve my country at anytime.” “Ghana has made me what I am today, how can I turn my back to the nation.” he fumed.

He said even though he had some problems with former national team coach Burkhard Ziese, he was not the only one. “All the players had a problem with the way he treated us and that doesn’t mean I have resigned from the national team.”

The 19 year is being touted as the new “Appiah” in reference to the captain of the Black Stars, who saw a similar football life in Italy. Muntari was called to the first team of Udinese six months after joining the team in two years ago. He has mainly been used as a substitute until some three weeks ago when Luciano Spalletti decided to used him as a regular. Muntari is expected to start when Udinese play AC Milan on Sunday in a crucial league clash.

Meanwhile his Ghanaian team-mate Gargo Mohammed has returned to the first team of Udinese after months of injury. He came on as a substitute in their 1-0 defeat of Lecce last Sunday.
