Mpong begins training after malaria bout

Highly rated winger Richard Mpong has trained with Medeama for the first time this season. The diminutive midfielder has been down with malaria since September.

The 21-year-old was a regular starter in Ghana’s gold-winning team at the All Africa Games two months ago and his marauding runs for the mauve and yellows have been missed. Mpong says he is thrilled by the prospect of helping Medeama to glory.

"I am very glad to be back in action in the league. It has been a hard time sitting on the side while my team have been on the road. I'm positive that our slow start to the season will improve very soon, especially after we beat Chelsea last Sunday."

Medeama have had problems at the wings in the past four matchdays and a return for the winger this weekend should be a boost for them. With six points from four games so far, Medeama are seventh in the league and play their next game away at Tema Youth this weekend.
