Monument for 126 perished soccer fans

The ministry of Education, Youth and Sports in collaboration with the National Sports council will mark the second anniversary of the May 9 stadium disaster with the unveiling of a monument in memory of the 126 soccer fans who perished that day.

A statement by the National Sports Council made available to the GNA Sports said the vice-president, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, will perform the unveiling ceremony at the forecourt of Accra Stadium clinic on Friday at 10 a.m.

Other activities lined up for the day include prayers by Christians, Muslims and Traditional Priests as well as the planting of commemorative trees by the vice-president, the Ministry of Youth and Sports/ the National Sports Council and the bereaved families.

Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko will also perform similar functions at the ceremony.
