Minister confident of Black Stars performance in Angola

Cape Coast, Dec. 16, GNA - The Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr Rashid Pelpuo, on Tuesday predicted that Ghana will win the gold medal during the Orange Africa Cup of nations in Angola next month.

He therefore appealed to the media, individuals and stakeholders to mobilize support for the Black Stars to perform to achieve the ultimate. Mr Pelpuo said this at the opening of the 2nd West African Handball/ Volleyball championships University Games (WAUG) at the University of Cap= e Coast (UCC).

Eight Universities are participating in the 10- day tournament mad e= up of University of Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, University of Cape Coast, University for Development Studies, Bayero- Kan= u University, Unilag- University of Lagos, UB- University de Bo=FAate, C=F4= te D'Voire and OAU-Obafemi Awolowo University, Nigeria.

The Minister announced that his ministry has decided to hunt for spo= rts talents at the Universities and urged the participating Ghanaian universities to take advantage of this to expand their social scope to compete in the Olympic Games.

Professor Haruna Yakubu, Pro- Vice Chancellor of the UCC asked the participants to comport themselves during the Games to ensure that it is incident- free and thanked the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the g= ood work done. Mr Anthony Egyir Aikins, Mayor of Cape Coast Metropolis urged the yo= uth to take advantage of the opportunities that sports offers to develop thei= r God-given talents. He announced that next year, a German Technical team will be visitin= g the Metropolis to help develop sports in the area under a five-year Technical Co- operation Agreement.

Mr Alex Tettey-Enyo, Minister of Education, who chaired the function= , observed that such games bring people together and so it was necessary th= at the participants took advantages of its benefits to develop their talents= .. In an opening volleyball match, UCC lost 3- 1 to Bayero-Kanu Universi= ty.
