Mighty Jets boost survival with win over Liberty

Accra, May 18, GNA - Tudu Mighty Jets boosted their chances of survi= val in the elite football league with a lone goal victory over Liberty Professionals in their Week 27 Glo Premier League encounter on Wednesday at the Carl Reindorf Park, Dansoman. Midfielder Aaron Amoah scored the only goal of the match in the seventh minute to hand the debutants their ninth win of the season. Despite their capture of the maximum points, Mighty Jets who played arguably their best performance in recent times still remain in the relegation zone. The visitors began on a bright note with their midfield trio of Sakyi Quaye, Amoah and veteran Winfred Dormon gaining the upper hand in most of the challenges. Liberty struggled in search of their feet with an output far from their 'Scientific Soccer Lads' acronym. On seven minutes, Amoah's flick from Dormon's well taken corner kick beat the Liberty goalie for what turned out to be the only goal of the match. The match remained a ding-dong affair with both teams making no serious attempt at goal. The second half was no different as Mighty Jets were slightly on top but failed in their quest to double the lead with countable chances that came their way. Liberty were reduced to 10-men two minutes from time after central defender David Addo was given the marching off orders for a second bookable offence after impeding Mighty Jets captain Richard Ofori. The numerical factor barely made any impact on the play of the two teams till proceedings came to an end.
