Meteors suffer heavy defeat

Ghana’s Olympic team, the Black Meteors, succumbed to an emphatic 3-0 defeat in a friendly on Sunday.

They were beaten by Premier League side Medeama SC at the T & A Park.

This was new coach Tom Strand’s first game in charge of the Mauve and Yellows since officially taking over the coaching mantle last week.

Philip Aseweh opened the scoring before strikers Kennedy Boateng and Nathaniel Asamoah completed the 3-0 rout over the Ghana under-23s.

In other high profile friendlies over the weekend, league Champions Asante Kotoko were beaten 2-0 at home by bogey side AshantiGold. The Miners once again proved to be too strong for Kotoko this off season by handing them their third straight defeat in 25 pre-season games. Former Ghana PL goal king Emmanuel Baffour and Joseph Atobisah got the goals. AshantiGold did a double over the porcupine warriors in the 2014 Top 4 tournament a couple of months ago.

Accra Hearts of Oak were held to a drawn game by Togolese Champions Semassi Club in an international friendly in Lome. The Phobians were in the lead on two occasions with goals from Hamza Fuseini and Paul Acquah but Semassi equalized very late in the game to leave the score line at 2-2.

Hearts of Oak have scheduled to play two more games in Togo before returning to Ghana.
