Mensah defends Oko Aryee's appointment

Mr Sylvester Mensah, Chairman of the Management Committee of the Black Queens, the national women soccer team, has described the appointment of Oko Aryee as coach of the team as a step in the right direction.

He told the GNA Sports in Ouagadougou that Okoh Arye's appointment would help prepare the team adequately for an impending qualifying match slated for Senegal on September 22.

Mr Mensah explained that Coach Paha was employed as a caretaker coach after Rev. Osei Kofi had deserted the team saying , " the dust has now settled with the appointment of a substantive coach."

"The image of the nation is at stake, and we have to do the right things so that we qualify for the African Women's Championship slated for Nigeria later in the year", he said.

The Chairman said the Ghana Football Association (GFA) was not aware of the grading of Coach Paha and Coach Mike Akpe and hence the latter was mistakenly appointed to be Paha's assistant.

He, however, said the GFA does not employ coaches but rather makes recommendations to the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Mr Mensah explained that Coach Paha failed to present his programme of action to the GFA after several requests, hence his removal.
