Mends to beef up squad during second round

Accra, Dec 5, GNA - Ebo Mends, newly appointed coach of Power FC is considering the recruitment of some experienced players to augment the present squad of the Club when the transfer window reopens early next year as he plots the escape of the team from the relegation zone. Power FC is currently stacked at the bottom of the 16 Club Premier League table with eight points out of the 13 matches so far played. Ebo Mends said he hopes the recruitment exercise will revive the fortunes of the Club, since the new players are expected to bring their rich experience to bear on the team.

Speaking to the GNA Sports after Tuesday morning's workout at the Club's training grounds at Osu Ako Adjei, the coach was tightlipped on the players on his list but was confident that they will enhance the performance of the team.

He described the targeted players as seasoned ones who are capable of maintaining the premiership status of the Club.

Coach Mends who took over the technical direction of the 'Electricity lads' last week, said his immediate target is to take the team out of the relegation zone at the end of the season, hence his decision to shop for the experienced players to meet the set target. According to the coach, he will also work on the fitness level of the players to increase it to an appreciable level and psyche them up to ensure their maximum performance.

He said the new measures are aimed at making Power FC one of the most transformed sides on the domestic scene.

Coach Mends is relishing a repetition of the feats he achieved in Benin with Dragons FC, where he guided the team through the 1998/99 season league, Knockout and Super Cup trophies without conceding defeat, as he takes over affairs with Power FC.

He said this will be achieved by employing the best tactical approach as well as the positive response of the players to his plans for every game.

'I believe this will not be a difficulty if my players are tactically disciplined and respond well to my instructions.'

On Sunday's clash with Berekum Arsenals, the coach was very confident that he will break the jinx at the Golden City Park, which has been a waterloo for visiting teams for the past two seasons. Arsenals are yet to lose a match at Berekum and look poised to add Power FC to their list of victims.

Meanwhile, Coach Mends has beefed up his technical team with the inclusion of Prince Owusu, formerly of Nania FC.

Owusu who is credited with guiding Nania FC from the Third Division to the First Division has since assumed his new position.
