Medeama begin FA Cup defence at Score FC

Holders, Medeama SC begin the defence of the MTN FA Cup they won last season with a tricky away fixture against third tier side, Score FC, Wednesday morning’s 2013/14 season round of 64 draw at the Ghana Football Association revealed.

The Eastern Region based side marched unto Accra to defeat New Town Youth 2-0 in the preliminary round and are one of 24 Division Two League sides, 24 Division One League teams added to all 16 Premier League clubs entered into the draw as the race to determine Ghana’s next knockout kings hits full gear December 18-23.

Ghana champions and last season’s beaten finalists, Asante Kotoko would have to wait to find out which of third tier sides, Tamale Liberty or Waiga United they will face whilst record winners, Hearts of Oak are also away to second tier league high-fliers, Bibiani Gold Stars.

All top flight sides avoided each other in draw which was supervised by FA Cup Committee Chairman, Lepowura Mohammed Nuru Deen Jawula and FA Cup Committee Coordinator, Kurt Okraku.

According to the organisers, the teams drawn to play at home in the round of 64 will all receive an appearance fee of GH?1,000 whilst the away teams get GH?1,500 each in addition to an automatic GH?1,600 from the MTN sponsors to each team to help in their purchase of strips which will eventually be fully MTN branded.

Each match will also see the award of MVP, best defender and discovery. The MVP will get an instant reward of GH?100 worth of MTN credits whilst the best defender and discovery are entered into a data for end of season award.

The MTN FA Cup champions of course are reserved the right to represent Ghana in the CAF Confederations Cup.
