Maxwell Konadu vows to tighten Ghana's defence

Ghana caretaker coach Maxwell Konadu admits his side committed mistakes in their 1-1 draw with Guinea last Saturday in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The ex-international striker pointed out to some lapses in defence as they threw away a winning position.

Asamoah Gyan struck the opener on 26 minutes when he drilled home a fine assist from co-striker Jordan Ayew.

But the Black Stars were pinned down by a resurgent Guinea side who leveled with ten minutes remaining from a superb curler by Ibrahim Troare.

Konadu says his side’s lame approach profited Michel Dussuyer’s side who bombarded the Ghana area until snatching the leveller.

“Generally we played well but we committed some mistakes in midfield and defence and could not hold on to our lead,” the 2014 CHAN silver-medal winning coach said in a post-match interview.

“The Guineans are a good side but we weren’t compact enough in defence and this created room for their attackers to press for a goal.

“I’ve noted the mistakes and when we get back home we’ll fix them before the return leg match.”

The Black Stars will host the Syli Nationale at the Tamale Stadium as they seek to cement their position at the top of Group E.
