Ghana begins the first of the two arranged friendly fixtures in France tomorrow without Sammy Adjei in the 21-man squad, announced by Claude Le Roy on Tuesday.

The absence of the goalkeeper from the Black Stars for friendly matches has been misinterpreted by the media, with reports that the Moadon Sport Ashdod goalkeeper has been dropped from the squad since no reports has confirmed him injured.

However, team coach, Claude Le Roy has played down such reports, explaining to ghanafa.org that the decision to omit his number two man in the post was as a result of the political condition between Israel - where the goalkeeper plies his trade and Saudi Arabia, a situation which bars people with Israeli visas from entering the Arabic nation.

“It’s a problem of visa. It’s not possible to have a visa to Saudi Arabia for political reasons.

“He’s (Adjei) always my second goalkeeper. And we have to find another one to make it three.”

Claude Le Roy maintains goalkeeping is a difficult position to play in as he takes a look at the quality of his second choice goalkeeper who he says has the ability to be the number one.

“It’s difficult to be a goalkeeper. Now we have to find a number three and four for the African Cup of Nations. It’s always better to have him. With Adjei’s quality, it’s difficult for him to be number two but there’s always one seat.”

Two uncapped goalkeepers are included in the squad for the two friendly games lined up for the Black Stars and Claude Le Roy says it’s part of the move to have a look at the good goalkeepers coming through the ranks.

Isaac Amoako and Isaac Ackon were named as part of the squad by Claude Le Roy.

Ghana kicks off a busy schedule beginning this weekend, September 8 in the French town of Rouen in a game against Morocco and another four days later on September 12 with Saudi Arabia in Riyadh.

Claude Le Roy would be missing some key personnel for the two matches. Injuries have forced out team captain, Stephen Appiah, John Mensah and Hans Adu Sarpei.

“It would be difficult to play more especially with so many injuries. But we have to prepare. Matthew Amoah is coming back at a great time. He scored over the weekend. However, my job is to make a choice and that’s what I do. That is difficult but I do it.”

The Black Stars coach admits it would be difficult playing without a full strength squad but he is only looking at the performances and not the results though he would relish winning.

“I’m not considering results. I am considering the performance. We are improving but what is important is to move step-by-step to get to the 23 (squad), to build the squad.

“We need to have a base of 17 (experienced players) and add 6 young players to prepare them for future assignments. We need to prepare today.”
