LOC to launch volunteer programme

Accra, July 20, GNA - The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of Ghana 2008 African Cup of Nations will on Saturday, July 28th launch the volunteer programme for the competition.

The launch pencilled for the forecourt of the secretariat of the LOC will be under the auspices of the Committee, the Ministries of Manpower, Youth and Employment and Education Science and Sports in collaboration with the National Service Secretariat. Magnus Rex Danquah, Chief Operating Officer of the LOC told the GNA Sports that the volunteer programme is opened to all Ghanaians. "Other residents in Ghana who have the desire to contribute to the success of the tournament and at the same time serve a good and noble cause are also welcome".

He said recruitment and training of volunteers will take place at all the four venues slated for the tourney- Accra, Kumasi, Tamale and Sekondi-Takoradi after the launch.

About 2,000 volunteers will be positioned to serve the four venue cities being used for the biennial championship from January 20-February 10, 2008.
