Kwarasey close to Portland Timbers deal

Ghana goalkeeper Adam Larsen Kwarasey is expected to seal a three-year deal with MLS outfit Portland Timbers before the end of the week after agreeing to personal terms, Goal Ghana understands.

Kwarasey joined Norwegian top-flight side Stromsgodset in 2007 but opted to move out of the club to the Providence Park Portland for a new challenge.

The 26-year-old is expected to compete with 37-year-old Donovan Ricketts who won the 2013 MLS goalkeeper of year, Andrew Weber and Jake Gleeson for the starting place in post after the club conceded 54 goals last season.

He will join countryman and former Liberty Professionals midfielder Kalif Alhassan who joined the Timbers in 2011, becoming the third player in Major League Soccer history to open his career with assists in each of his first three home games, Timbers winning all games as a result.

Kwarasey played 154 matches for Stromsgodset, winning the best goalkeeper's award in the Tippeligaen in 2013 and has earned 21 caps for Ghana.
