Kumasi fans mob Cameroonian stars at training grounds

Kumasi, Jan. 20, GNA - Soccer fans in Kumasi on Friday and Saturday thronged the Wesley College (WESCO) Park in their numbers to watch the training sessions of the Cameroonian Team.

Mr Linus Pascal Fouda, an Official of the team, told GNA Sports on Saturday at the Georgia Hotel in Kumasi, where the team is lodging, that most of their senior players were becoming increasingly worried about their safety at the training pitch as a result of the manner in which they were mobbed in their last two training sessions. The development, he said, resulted in a situation where the players found it difficult to concentrate on the instructions given them by the technical bench.

Mr Pascal Fouda has, therefore, appealed to The Kumasi Venue Organizing Committee (KVOC) to endeavour to tighten security at the WESCO Park to prevent football fans from disorganizing their training programmes.

Security men had hectic time in dispersing football fans, who wanted to interact with the players before and after their training. He said Samuel Eto=B4o Fils; Rigobert Song; Bill Tchato and Joseph-D=E9sir=E9 Job had to be whisked away.

The Pharaohs, the Egyptian National Team, arrived in Kumasi on Saturday.

Cameroon is paired alongside Egypt, Zambia and Sudan in Group C at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. Egypt will play Cameroon at 1700 hours while Zambia plays Sudan at 1900 hours UTC on Tuesday January 22 2008.
