Kufuor commends Black Stars

Accra, June 27, GNA - President John Agyekum Kufuor on Tuesday congratulated the Black Stars on their successful maiden appearance in the World Cup in Germany.

In a message to the Black Stars in their camp in Germany, he said even though they lost to Brazil at the one-sixteenth stage of the competition, the Stars had acquitted themselves brilliantly and have made Ghana and Africa proud.

"As debutants playing against the five-time champions of the tournament, your task was a huge one but you displayed a rare kind of courage and brilliance that no doubt made you victors in defeat." President Kufuor thanked the coach, management and technical staff and the playing body for lifting high the flag of Ghana and Africa in the competition and bringing such honour to the country and the continent as a whole.

President Kufuor asked Ghanaians to be thankful to God and rejoice for the success of the Black Stars and assured the team of a rousing welcome home.

"You are our heroes and we love you all."
