Kufuor Decries Lustre Performance In Football

President J. A. Kufuor yesterday decried the low level of performance of the national soccer team, saying steps are being taken to reverse this state of affairs.

In his State of the Nation Address in Parliament, the President said football is one game that excites great passion among all Ghanaians because "when the Black Stars perform well the national mood is always lightened. But when they perform badly, we all get depressed".

He said the country has not been doing well at all in football and "our performance in other games is no better".

"To avert this state of affairs, we must go back to basics. Schools sports will be regenerated so young talents can be discovered and nurtured" The President said lack of basic infrastructure is a major handicap in trying to make headway in sporting activities, adding that talks are currently going with the Chinese government for the building of modern stadia and other sporting facilities around the country. —GNA
