Kotokrom and Abesim football teams remember May 9

Kotokrom, (B/A) May 9, GNA - Super Stars of Kotokrom spanked visiting Gentle Stars Football Club of Abesim 3-1 in an Under-12 friendly football match at the Municipal Assembly Junior High School Park at the weekend to commemorate the 10th anniversary celebration of the country' May 9 stadium disaster.

Super Stars also won the Under-10 encounter 2-1 in an earlier match. The match by two teams was a remembrance of the football incident that claimed 127 lives at the then Accra Sports Stadium in 2001(now Ohene Djan Sports stadium) during a football match between Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko in which Hearts won 2-1 and eventually led to the loss of lives.

The match was jointly organised by the management of the two Clubs to remind sports enthusiasts in the two communities in the Sunyani Municipality on the need for them to comport themselves during and after sporting activities, especially football, to avoid a recurrence of 2001 incident. In the U-12 division, Gentle Stars were the first to score through Andrews Oppong in the 34th minute but Abel Kumi of Super Stars levelled up the scores just before the end of the first half. The first 10 minutes of the second half saw Kumi and Jeff Amoah known as 93Kaka" by the fans combining effectively and a second goal by Kumi came as no surprise. The Kotokrom lads maintained the pressure on their Abesim counterparts and it was no wonder when Kaka sealed the doom of Gentle Stars in 74th minute with a spectacular goal to bring the final scores to 3-1. 09 May 11
