Kotoko coach resigned to Ben Acheampong exit

Asante Kotoko coach Mas-Ud Dramani has confirmed the imminent exit of Ben Acheampong for Angolan side Petro Atlético de Luanda despite registering the striker for Kotoko’s Africa Cup campaign this season.

Kotoko began negotiating deals with the Angolan side last September and even allowed Acheampong together with centre back Ohene Brenya leave for trials with the side.

Despite this impending move, the Kotoko technical bench went ahead to include Acheampong in their squad for the CAF Champions League. Asante Kotoko had omitted right back Yaw Frimpong’s name from the squad due to his impending move to Congolese side TP Mazembe later this month.

This, the Ben Acheampong case, the club’s head coach, Dramani explains was done upon a second thought of the situation:

“I thought of it wise to include him because by the time I was releasing the list, his leaving for the Angolan team had not come up and it was better to get his name on it (Kotoko’s Africa squad) than not to have it on and then maybe he does not get the opportunity to travel.

Asante Kotoko’s attack so far in the Glo Premier League has been goal-shy, scoring 8 in ten games out of which Ben Acheampong has one goal. However coach Dramani says the technical team is mapping out schemes to fill his void.

“We’re putting some mechanism in place so that in the absence of Ben Acheampong, it will not be like a vacuum but someone will be readily ready to fill in that gap,” Damani assured.
