Kenneth Asamoah still leads Tanzania charts

Kenneth Asamoah’s goal for Yanga secured a 1-0 win over Polisi Dodoma to keep the heat on Tanzania league leaders Simba on Wednesday.

The Ghanaian striker’s first half goal consolidated his place as the Ligi Kuu Bara’s top scorer with eight goals. Yanga now have 27 points and are second to fierce rivals Simba, who have a point more. Simba drew 3-3 with Moro United.

Asamoah has improved greatly in the past two seasons at Yanga, where another Ghanaian, Yaw Berko also plays as a second-choice goalkeeper. Asamoah first went to Yanga on loan at the start of the 2010 season from Serbian side FK Jagodina and quickly became an integral part of the team’s setup.

Coincidentally, it was former Hearts of Oak gaffer Kosta Papic who brought him over to Tanzania when he was hired early last year.

Papic described Asamoah last year as “one of those boys who hits you while you lose concentration.” As the season has approached the half-way stage, there have been persistent rumours that Asamoah would leave for South Africa in the next transfer window.

The player and his club chairman, Lloyd Nchunga, have repeatedly rubbished such reports.
