Accra, Oct. 22, GNA - Mr Danny Jordan, Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) South Africa 2010 World Cup has declared that Africa cannot afford to fail in hosting the competition.

He said that there is therefore the need for a concerted effort to marshal resources to support the six teams that will represent the continent at the soccer fiesta.

Mr Jordan said the time has come for the entire continent to as a matter of priority to put its resources together to support the nations that will represent Africa, since the continent cannot afford to bow out shamefully from the competition at an early stage.

Speaking in an interview with the GNA Sports, the Chairman of the LOC said, "This is why all multi-nationals operating in Africa must be made to contribute to the preparations of all the six teams so that we don't encounter problems of rows over allowances, bonuses and injuries among others which has remained the bane of the continent at the World Cup".

Mr Jordan said African teams have continually failed to glitter at the World Cup despite excellent performances at the continental level, Olympic Games and other international championships but noted that the South Africa 2010 must be an exception.

"It must be an African World Cup for Africans and we must do everything possible to win it, because it presents the continent with the greatest opportunity to win the championship".

Mr Jordan said Africa will have the highest number of participants in the competition following South Africa's role as the host, adding that the continent has been presented with a unique opportunity win the trophy "but this will not come on silver platter but through hard work".

He however added that winning the World Cup could only be a dream if each country enters the race as individual nations and stressed on the need to present a united force in all spheres to realise the African dream. According to Mr Jordan, the history of the World Cup has always been favourable to continents that host them but that there have only been two occasions where countries from different continents won the World Cup, therefore Africa must utilise the 2010 opportunity to win the World Cup on her own soil.
